IF you have previously sent comments to the Council regarding planning applications on Brandon Stadium, you may well have received a letter or e-mail in the last week.
If you were one of the many who sent comments on Local Plan section W1B earlier this year and copied them to us, we will be in touch over the coming days.
The latest planning application submitted by Brandon Estates is now in the consultation phase, and much as we know it is frustrating to continually have to repeat the same viewpoint, we are urging all supporters of speedway and stock car racing to OPPOSE these proposals.
Everyone is aware of the weight of opinion of the local and wider community, which has been demonstrated several times in the past, but this is a new application and hence a new consultation.
As we stated last week, it is crucial to note that just because a ‘replacement speedway track’ is mentioned in the application, this does NOT mean Brandon Estates have any intention of providing this, and there is no provision whatsoever for stock car racing.
The mention of a ‘replacement speedway track’ is simply a ruse with which they hope to gain planning permission by involving the Council in a deception. These are similar tactics employed by the same planning agents in Swindon. We will not be fooled by them.
It is crucial that you once again send your objections, quoting Planning Application R26/0559, and these should either be sent to sam.burbidge@rugby.gov.uk (they MUST include your name and address), or by using the online portal at www.planningportal.rugby.gov.uk .
Your objections can be as brief as you wish, but any reasons you give must be made with planning issues in mind. Therefore we would suggest you mention any or all of the following: the application does not comply with National Planning Policy Framework; it does not comply with the decision of the appeal Inspector as it does not address the reasons for rejection; and the fact that use of the site for housing has already been considered and rejected through the Local Plan.
Representations must be submitted by Friday August 14, and anyone can send their comments regardless of whether or not you have done so before. You must include your name and address .
We cannot deny it is a frustration to have to go down this route once again, especially as a clear plan exists for the stadium’s future as a motorsports venue with the necessary investment in place, but this is another crucial hurdle we must clear before the process can continue – so we would urge you to send that e-mail.
