COVENTRY Storm were defeated 56-34 by a strong Swindon Sprockets team in Thursday’s Challenge match at Blunsdon.
Danny Ayres scored a 15-point maximum for the home side but there were some highlights for the City Gearboxes Storm, with guest Tom Bacon and skipper Liam Carr providing the bulk of their scoring.
Bacon collected 12 points from five rides whilst Carr was involved in the race of the night with Ayres in Heat 6, just missing out to his rival after numerous passes between the pair.
15-year-old Henry Atkins enjoyed a race to remember by taking victory in Heat 8 over a hard-challenging Nathan Stoneman, with Atkins holding an excellent wide line throughout.
And fellow reserve Callum Walker finished the meeting strongly as he chased home the far more experienced Darryl Ritchings in Heat 13 before taking second place ahead of Lee Smart in Heat 15 after mechanical issues for Carr saw Walker called up for the last race.
Boss Laurence Rogers said: “It was good experience for the boys, and also it gave them some laps which they’ve really been lacking of late.
“We were missing Mitchell (Davey) which naturally made things tougher, but I think we did fairly well, Henry came up with a nice heat win for us, and Callum’s last two rides were excellent.”
