FORMER Bees skipper Scott Nicholls took the honours in Steve Johnston's Testimonial meeting at Brandon on Sunday lunchtime.
Johnston was rewarded for his contribution to the sport with a good crowd for the event, who saw the meeting decided in the last race with Nicholls, Jason Crump and Leigh Adams all unbeaten to that point.
It was Nicholls who flew away from the outside gate to get the better of Crump, although the double World Champion kept the pressure on right to the end.
Adams was third, whilst Simon Stead's last place in that race saw him overhauled in the final standings by Rory Schlein, who enjoyed a consistent afternoon.
Johnston's own racing ended in somewhat inglorious fashion as he limped home with a puncture in his last ride, and there were a number of other good performances including from veteran Birmingham captain Jason Lyons and young Australians Cameron Woodward and Cory Gathercole.
