63-32 it may not have been on this occasion - but the Buildbase Bees could arguably take even more satisfaction from their latest win at Wimborne Road, which completed a clean sweep of victories over the Pirates this season.
Coventry's team of battlers recorded their third win out of three to add three vital points to their play-off chase with their fourth victory on the road this season.
Chris Harris led from the front with a true captain's innings in ultra-tricky conditions, with Edward Kennett also excelling on his old track and Olly Allen adding two vital race victories - against a team who would have every expectation of monopolising heat wins, especially at home.
Bees also had a trump card in their lower order with Ben Barker's thrilling performance tipping the scales in their favour as he took a full complement of seven outings.
Barker's inclusion at reserve in recent matches has given the team a new dimension - but nobody could have predicted the impression he would make so soon after returning from a broken leg.
Taking extra rides was the last thing he was expected to be doing, which was another reason for the return to a seven-man team after Bees used rider-replacement at Wolverhampton a fortnight ago.
As it was, at least Bees were able to pick and choose the races in which to deploy their powerful No.7, rather than be shoehorned into particular slots, and Barker responded with a bumper double-figure haul.
Both sides went through the full range of emotions with track conditions ensuring a nail-biting contest throughout - and there were stages when, far from chasing an away win, Bees were fearful of coming home with nothing.
And Poole's frustration was clear after, just as in the reverse fixture at Brandon, they lost control of proceedings in the closing stages with Heat 14 yet again proving to be a successful one for the Bees.
Pre-meeting rain had eased in time for Heat 1, although conditions were still not going to be ideal, but Harris and Filip Sitera shot away from the start to give Bees early hopes of an advantage, only for Sitera to be overhauled by Hans Andersen and Joe Screen. Harris, though, held on at the front despite a fierce challenge from the Dane, which ensured a shared race against Poole's strongest pairing.
Heat 2 was called back for an unsatisfactory start, but with Steve Boxall having blown an engine away from the line - just before the red lights came on, which became ironic later on - he was disqualified, and Bees took advantage of a 4-2 in the re-run with Barker rounding a slightly faster-starting Ben Wilson off the second bend.
Poole, however, levelled the scores with a 4-2 of their own in the next race with Kennett moving into second place on the back straight but Martin Smolinski being passed into the second lap by debutant Leon Madsen, whose third spot backed up Bjarne Pedersen's win.
Rain had forced that race to be briefly delayed, but fortunately it moved away for a time and Allen then rode a terrific race in Heat 4 to hold Holder at bay, with Barker comfortably taking third place over Wilson for a Bees 4-2.
That was a result they repeated in Heat 5 as Harris charged clear, and although Pedersen managed to pass Sitera on the third and fourth turns the Czech rider held on for third to leave the scores at 17-13 to Coventry - and with four heat winners out of five, Bees were looking good.
Things changed, though, within one lap of a disastrous Heat 6 with Ricky Wells falling in a congested first turn, and Allen - who was battling closely with Screen - coming to a halt at the end of the first lap to hand the Pirates the open-goal of a 5-0.
A further Pirates advantage followed in Heat 7 with Kennett splitting Holder and Wilson on the first lap but Smolinski was unable to make an impression, and as the rain came down Poole extended their lead to five points with a 4-2 in Heat 8 - but it could so easily have been a 5-1 until Barker made up enormous ground on the last lap and then switched back to snatch second place from Boxall on the line.
Trailing 26-21, the Bees needed to find some heat advantages against a Poole side who seemed unlikely to take 5-1s at least until the closing stages, but it was the 4-2 route which got the visitors back into the match.
Allen was sent wide by Pedersen on the first bend of Heat 9, but this did him a favour as it simply put him on the fast line rather than the skidpan mid-track, and as the testimonial man took his second win of the night Wells was collecting an important third place after an early battle with Madsen.
Bees' big break came in Heat 10 when Andersen was caught out by the track on the first bend and fell unaided, sportingly re-mounting to allow the race to continue - Kennett taking the flag by a distance with Barker, taking his first extra ride, chasing Screen to the line but having to be content with third.
With Bees now back to one point down, they turned the meeting around in Heat 11 thanks to Harris's third win - somewhat frightening at times as he flirted with the air-fence on turn four, but he still got the better of Holder with Barker again in the all-important third place.
But Barker hit misfortune in Heat 12, his third ride on the trot, when his engine blew on the last bend allowing Boxall to steal third place - and to compound Bees' frustrations in a race which had looked to favour them on paper, Madsen rode a tidy race up-front to defeat Smolinski and put the home side 36-35 up as the rain returned, and this time threatened to be much heavier.
Had the meeting turned on that last-bend failure, it would have been devastating, but fortunately things went on - although Allen probably had different sentiments as he looped shortly after leaving the start-line for Heat 13, landing heavily and also taking a knock from his bike.
But the race had already been stopped a split-second before Allen took off - and ironically the main movement had come from Allen himself! - which allowed him back into the re-run (on a bike borrowed from Wells), but also allowed Harris another go from gate 2, from which he managed to split Holder and Andersen in a typically tough first-bend battle.
Conditions were by now far from easy and with the score at 40-37 Bees were in some danger of possibly losing everything from the meeting, a scenario which could have moved closer had Pedersen won Heat 14 for the Pirates.
But just as at Brandon when he touched the tapes, the Dane was eclipsed in the penultimate race as Barker and Kennett both made good starts and then vitally knew where each other was around the first lap as they moved into a 5-1 position. Pedersen's challenge quickly faded, and apart from some worrying smoke from Barker's second bike on the last two laps, the maximum advantage was secured and Bees went into the last heat ahead, guaranteed of at least a point from the meeting.
They wanted three, however, and the evidence of the most recent races was that the starting positions for Heat 15 were going to be vital - so Peter Oakes' correct calling of tails will go down as one of the best coin-tosses of the season.
Bees selected gates one and three in no time at all, deploying Kennett from the inside and Harris from three - and the high-pressure race went like clockwork, with the Coventry pair making the best starts to control the first bend - Harris was quickly into the fast line and shooting off into what would have been the sunset on a different day, and whilst Kennett was overhauled for second by Andersen at the end of the first lap, his role was also important in delaying the Poole duo, with Holder finding no way through for all four laps.
Both teams deserve credit for getting the meeting on and getting it through all 15 races, and the Buildbase Bees once again showed a true team ethic to take what will go down as one of their most dramatic wins of the season.
