WE are aware that another planning application has been submitted by Brandon Estates in recent weeks, which has yet to be validated by Rugby Borough Council.
The application is for houses and the “potential for a speedway track” (no mention of stock car racing), slightly modified from their initial letter to residents in November 2025.
We are also aware that Brandon Estates have been canvassing residents around the perimeter of the stadium and leaving some of them a 'Consultation questionnaire.’
Meanwhile, at midnight Wednesday/Thursday, travellers again made their way onto the site and police attended at 1am. We understand they are due to be moved on shortly.
A full, detailed response to the planning application will be made by the Campaign Group if and when it is validated and goes into the public domain.
For now, we make the following, brief response:
As we stated in November 2025 when these proposals were first mooted in public, the application is a deception and a ruse to get planning permission for housing.
It involves the same planning agents, DPP Planning, utilising the same tactics which forced the closure of Abbey Stadium, Swindon, where development on the stadium site itself has so far thankfully been resisted.
In that case, an application was made to redevelop land around that speedway stadium, right up to the stadium perimeter, including the car park. That application also included the redevelopment of the speedway stadium. The application was approved and hundreds of houses were built. The owners then claimed speedway wasn’t viable on the site and submitted another application to demolish the stadium and build houses on it, which was refused.
The latest proposals on Brandon will not overcome the reasons for rejection of Brandon Estates' appeal to the refusal of their previous application by the Inspector in January 2024, nor will they meet the criteria set out in the National Planning Policy Framework.
Secondly, we are sure the timing of the questionnaire being issued and the arrival of travellers on site must be pure coincidence!
